Understanding the Firm’s Need for Flexibility – Part 2

Litigation in a cloud

eDI's SaaS (Software as a Service) offering continues to help law firms reduce litigation and IT expenses and increase profits.

Designed in collaboration with industry leading attorneys, CIO's, and IT professionals, eDI's SaaS offering is designed to reduce the financial and personnel burdens associated with conventional litigation IT and software licensing deployments. With a customized eDI SaaS solution, law firms gain more IT functionality and control, make litigation software applications accessible over the Internet, and gain the flexibility to quickly increase or decrease data storage capacities with no upfront costs.

In this newsletter, we discuss the solution to our last SaaS issue and how it became part of a 2011 success story:

Making SaaS a Success Story – Understanding the Firm's Need for Flexibility

In the last newsletter we focused on a law firm with over 250 attorneys and a support staff of nearly 200.  With over 10 offices, the firm uses a number of different litigation packages, with the primary one being the summation iBlaze product.  Over the last few years, the firm has struggled to manage the growing amount of client litigation data, requiring the IT department to attempt to build a strategy and budget around its unpredictable and exponentially rising amounts of data.  The firm also struggled to manage their litigation support personnel with the many ebbs and flows that coincided with continuous flows of incoming data. Here is a
recap of the challenges they faced:
Challenges
  • Implement  a model that can reduce capital costs and increase profits per partner
  • Gain a more secure and flexible data storage environment
  • Enhance the level of software and data expertise
  • Resolve application support and maintenance struggles
  • Effectively manage rapidly fluctuating data sizes
Solution
One of the main benefits of the SaaS solution for this firm was the creation of a cost recovery system.  The firm, like many firms, found it difficult to properly allocate specific costs to specific clients.  With eDI's SaaS solution, they were provided a continuous detailed breakdown of volumes, users, and professional servers by client, allowing the firm to pass these expenses on to their client.  This in turn reduced the firm's overhead and
eliminated costly waste.
In addition, the tailored SaaS solution provided for a more flexible and adjustable storage solution.  This allowed the firm to increase their storage needs when new matters arose, and to reduce as matters settled or were no longer needed.  This element greatly reduced risk and capital expenses for the firm. Another area that was improved in with this SaaS solution was proper staffing.  The firm was able to augment their litigation support staff without having to hire people during busy times or release people during slow times.
By selecting a SaaS partner that understood the infrastructure as well as the different litigation support applications, the firm reduced litigation and IT expenses and increased firm profits.
